Ancillary task text 2 1/3

This picture is the advertisement Kings of Leon used worldwide to promote their album ‘Only By The Night’ it would have been seen on everything from bus stops to in record shops, and even in magazines to gain attention that would hopefully result in people understanding the album is on sale and in return the public would buy the album. This would then mean the poster was a success as it achieved its intended purpose.

In order to be both stimulating to the public’s brain and to be educational with informative information, the poster included certain standout singles the band have released, when the release date for the album is and where you can get it ‘www.kingsofleon.com’. All these facts are all delivered with the same font as everything else on the poster and a variety of colour to stand out and to stimulate an audience. This is important as it sets a theme the public and fans can identify and in a world where adverts are everywhere to retain a certain indentify the public and fans can indentify with is important for the success of the promotional campaign. Another key important part of he poster is the provided facts given to the target audience, it tells you who the album is released by via logos, this I believe is beneficial and I will consider for my own poster because it saves room but also gives something else other than words, it gives the poster extra imagery.

The most lucrative aspect of the poster comes right in the middle, the first thing anyone would see when glancing upon the poster and that is the image of the band members all coming together to form a symbolic eagle. This is also the albums front cover, this is a great idea because when someone looks at the poster and then go to find the record in a shop they instantly know what front cover to look for based on the image on the poster, I will definitely use this for my own project. Referring back to the image itself, it is very decorative of the colour green, the set theme colour of the whole album and its promotional campaign this shows sustainability something that is constant. The image itself is the collections of the four members each having a part of their individual head being made into one head, with eagle eyes. This for me symbolizes everything an eagle does, it acts as their spirit animal. An eagle represents power and speed, the pace shown by these creatures is mind blowing the fact a bird with such speed in the air can have so much precession when flying and when capturing prey from the ground. This suggests the music of the album will fast paced, powerful raw and animalistic. The other symbolic reference is the positioning of the eyes of the eagle, there is a metaphor that society uses and it refers to humans being eagled eyed, this simply means that people with such trait don’t miss anything, they see everything however quick it is. This can be referred to the album because the band have been eagled eyed on the poster as it was used worldwide their eyes were also.

Lastly, I will look at the positioning of the bands name, Kings of Leon is at the top of the poster for me this means the band are at the top of the game and the music charts, this album reached number one in the UK charts therefore it showed the confidence the band had in the album.
