Ancillary task 3/3

This poster is an advertisement of Lana Del Rey’s album ‘Born to Die’ that is clearly oriented by the female’s dominance within popular music culture. The star dominances is installed into the poster through the positioning of herself and her name. Firstly, Lana Del Rey takes a central role within the poster, this is conventionally used as selling point to the readers because it will be the first thing they will see and it will be their first impression of the album, artist and poster and Lana Del Rey clearly wants to be at the centre of the reader’s attention. Not only is it a bold statement but we can see how bold Lana Del Rey is due to the positioning of her body language, although it is an image taking as a mid-shot readers are still made to feel smaller, her fans look up to her and see her as a role model and someone they inspire to be and that is what the message captivates. The poster displays the message of authority as her eyes are looking down upon readers and that means she deserves respect of fans and the public, and for people who have never heard of her before it means they will as the confidence she has in herself needs to be shown through the album and that is where the audience can test the strength of such confidence. This in itself has created a unique selling campaign.  Whereas the album show be the main selling point in this album, her name at the top of the screen is bolder and bigger than the name of the album this gives evidence to my statement that she is bigger than her music. She is see as a figure and not a musician that is why her poster in unconventional because she’s aiming to promote herself more so than the album. The conventions used however are the list of songs on the record this allows the readers to know what they should expect but the font is so small it is barely readable for even myself, this should have been changed as the poster will be seen worldwide and people should be given the information they need before purchasing a product because an album is a product that needs sales.

The colour scheme is representative of the albums artwork both use blue and white to great effect and they both interchange to suit a different coloured back ground i.e white top blue writing, and blue sky white writing. It is very connective, even the logos of important companies have been turned into the colour of blue to suit the album that is how important Lana Del Rey is. The image is the same as the album and that is expected and I will use the same image for my poster as I have for the album, it allows audiences to identify the poster and connect it with the record which is being promoting.
